Is life better enjoyed buffet or fine dining style?
Feeling stretched?
Wondering how exactly you managed to book every single moment of your life with something?
Thinking to yourself am I doing any of this well?
There have been some amazingly well conveyed blogs and articles in the past few years about stopping the glorification of being busy. (want to read some I have loved? here, here annnnnd here.)
The take away always is the same, we are filling our lives like we fill a plate at a Vegas buffet. “Hmm, a little of that, a little of this … oh! I have room to try a smidge of that, and a couple of these rolls… oh my word look at the desserts!” … all while secretly wondering if it will be frowned upon to grab another plate, or even wondering if you have a zippy bag in your purse to take a little for the road.
Think about your life. What are the things on your plate? Here is my plate, see if you can identify:
- Family Casserole (marriage, kids, extended family)
- Work Pot Luck (full time SAHM, pt virtual assistant for 2 companies, oil mama)
- Personal Punch (mom groups, friends, social time, blogging, self identity)
- Maintained Munchies (showers? Hair cuts, brushing my teeth, reading a paper …)
- Spiritual Sundae (church, prayer, community, reading, talking, being aware)
I would go on and on but I think I have made my point. It is not just the one divided section of our life plate, it is all of the subcategories that make the whole thing so difficult to manage. My girls? They are a who category of their own! Yet I have to nestle them into the family piece all while hoping I am enough to them and making their lives beautiful.
All of this is about self awareness for me personally … and really diving in to say enough is ENOUGH. I want to make a list of what matters and why, and go from there. I want to look at an event invite and judge it based on some criteria before I just say “YUP! I am your girl! I will be there! What can I bring?!”
Why? Really why?
Because very rarely do I say to any of the thing that really matter to me “YUP! I am ready! I will do this! How can I help myself?!” For me, that has to stop. Now.
So if you are so inclined to connect with me on this, I have a very simple little document for you right down there that you can print and fill out. Let’s talk about this. Let’s give ourselves just one moment to decide if we are living our best life. In a chat happening with a friend via text as I write this blog (multitasking at its finest) we are both mothers of small children talking about just this subject saying we are starving for more simplicity and intentionality in our lives. Join us? We can without a doubt make a difference in our own glorification of being busy.
